Secure Document Destruction of St. Louis is a proud member of the NAID®
Since Secure Document Destruction of St Louis (SDD) was started it has been awarded AAA certification from the National Association for Information Destruction, Inc. (NAID), the international trade association for companies providing information document destruction services. SDD meets and, in many cases, exceeds NAID standards.
What is the NAID?
The NAID® is the non-profit trade organization of the secure destruction industry. Founded in 1994, its mission is to promote proper destruction of all forms of discarded media containing personal and proprietary information. NAID has forged strong relationships internationally with policymakers and regulators and enforces security standards for the secure destruction industry around the world.
What is NAID AAA Certification?
The NAID AAA Certification Program establishes standards for a secure destruction process in areas that include operational security, employee hiring and screening, the destruction process, responsible disposal, and insurance. NAID AAA Certification is offered on a voluntary basis to all member companies providing information destruction services.
SDD meets or exceeds NAID certification criteria:
Employee Hiring and Screening to Meet NAID Certification
- Seven-year employment history vetted and kept on file.
- All employees must sign a confidentiality agreement before employment begins.
- All drivers must meet state licensing requirements.
- Employees are drug screened at the time of hire and 50% randomly screened annually.
- All employees must undergo comprehensive third party pre-employment screening consisting of criminal background checks and Social Security number traces going back seven years.
Operational Security Requirements by NAID
- Materials are always attended by a company employee and physically secured from unauthorized access before destruction.
- All materials are contained during removal from customer premises to mobile shredding truck to prevent loss from wind and inclement weather and from prying eyes.
- Written policies for drivers and processing employees must be in place.
- Information Security Specialists wear company uniforms and photo ID badges at all times.
- All vehicles have applicable government inspections, registration and insurance.
- All vehicles have lockable/securable cabs and lockable/securable enclosed boxes.
The Destruction Process as Required by NAID
- Paper is destroyed by equipment that shreds the paper to a particle size that is no wider than 5/8” shred width.
- Shredded paper MUST be recycled (may not be used for animal bedding, packing materials or insulation) because the final step in eliminating information is accomplished during the “bleaching / de-inking” of paper fiber during the recycling process.
Insurance & Company Profile Requirements by NAID
- General Liability Insurance of at least $2 million is maintained.
- Company must be a fully registered business (Secure Document Destruction of St Louis has been in business since 2008.)
- Secure Document Destruction of St Louis is also indemnified by NAID Downstream Data Coverage and was the first and, currently, the ONLY shredding company in the St Louis/ Bi-State region to carry this coverage.
In Addition
- To pass certification, a physical inspection is performed by Certified Protection Professionals to ensure compliance with all criteria.
- To maintain certification, all certified companies are subject to a random, unannounced inspection at any time throughout the year.
